Are labs used for the majority of larger computing loads anyways, negating the potential slight performance advantages in a Windows laptop? Or is it necessary to run many of the programs on your own device, and it being a severe handicap to be attempting that on a Mac? I'll take any input on this, but would prefer to find out from those who used a Mac for engineering here. So the question is how well suited is a Macbook for a Penn State engineering student. Many people also say that it is fairly simple to run just about anything using bootcamp, and many times completely unnecessary since labs are so frequently used in their classes. Many people say that it is either impossible or difficult to run many of the programs utilized by engineering majors. When I research online which is best for engineering majors, all of the reviews are very mixed, but it seems like the biggest issue is software. I'm somewhat torn between whether or not I should get a Macbook or a windows-based laptop. I am going to be attending UP as a freshman this upcoming fall, with plans to study engineering(maybe mechanical, maybe electrical, maybe some other type of engineering, or maybe even something totally different entirely).
